Damage and Help
Below I'm going to discuss the problems our aquatic biomes face, not just the habitats but the animals too. Many things disrupt the aquatic areas that are scattered across the earth and we need to stop them before its to late. The earliest record of overfishing was in 1800s, this was when humans started seeking blubber for their oil lamps, when the search for blubber began that's when humans started to desiccate the whale population. some of the first fishes that where overfished were Atlantic cod, Herrings and California Sardines, these three types of fish almost were harvested to extinction in the mid 1900s. When the wide spread of protein full foods began the number of fisheries went up. As fish have lots of protein they soon became popular and important for healthy people. Studies from 2008's catch data suggests that if fish catching rates continue along the same track all the worlds fisheries will collapse by 2048. Humans use to assume oceans and other water places were unendingly rich and vast but after climate change, pollution, overfishing, habitat destruction and acidification the picture of a perfect endless aquatic system ended and one in crisis emerged. Many scientist say most fish populations can be recovered with aggressive fishery management, fixing the increased use of aquaculture, better law enforcement of governing catches, stopping illegal fishing and stabilising the harvesting of the waters fauna. One of the hardest things to stop will be the over harvesting of fishes as it is such a popular form of income. The problem with stopping overfishing is that since the public have grown accustomed to the rich supply of seafood, the recovery road for the damage we have caused the population of fish will be hard to fix, as people are use to having an endless supply of fish. Over the development of materials to catch fish better 27 millions tons have been wasted on the advancement of trap and nets. Shipping is one of the greatest things about the ocean but oil spills and dumping of waste in the ocean are some of the elements that have and are damaging the oceans healthiness. Some shipping is alight but those ones aren't. Other problems with shipping is chemical accidents or water and air pollution by the modern day engine fumes and gases. Plus some water crafts disturb the natural environment with loud noises, large
waves and frequent hitting of fauna and flora. The beginning of mining ocean floors for diamond, gold, silver, metal ores like gravel mines and manganese nodules happened in the 1950s. Mining of nodules containing nickel, copper and cobalt began a bit latter in the 1960's. But mining has a bad affect on the ocean, it destroys habitats wiping out vast numbers of fish and invertebrates. Finally mining lifts the sediment off the ocean floor, this can block out the sunlight. This is bad because it can prevent photosynthesis from occurring. When this happens it kills coral and other organisms that depend on photosynthesis.
Here are ten things you can do to help the aquatic plants, lakes, marine life, oceans, rivers and water of our world,
1. Reduce climate change and minimise your energy consumption and your carbon footprint.
2. Eat sustainable fish, so be careful to choose common fish when eating seafood, don't eat rare fish or endangered species, or on the brink of becoming endangered species.
3. Produce fewer plastic product waste as they have a detrimental impact upon the environment of aquatic plants and animals.
4. Keep beaches and other landmasses near aquatic areas clean so nothing will get pulled into the ocean.
5. Don't buy products that exploit the aquatic environments in anyway, as some products harm the habitat and its life to be collected and produced.
6. Be an ocean friendly pet owner if you own fish, by buying the correct fish that you can properly look after, make sure to buy a sustainable breed of fish too.
7. Help maintain the water habitats on this world by supporting organisations that specialise in the well being of those places.
8. Influence your community to support the aquatic environment too.
9. Travel responsibly, don't be reckless, don't litter and use environment friendly cruise ships if your going somewhere, finally be aware of wild life near your water vehicle.
10. Lastly educate yourself about the issues our aquatic biomes face so you will be more aware of the problems, and the things you can do to help.
